2010 Stylus DJ Awards [Voting Ends Monday March 29]

Whatup everyone.. It’s that time of year again – the polls are open to cast your votes for your favourite DJs & Artists across the country. As DJs, we are a driving force in shaping & defining trends across music, technology & pop culture. If you are passionate about music (regardless of genre), it is important that you take a few minutes out of your day to vote for your picks.

Last year, your support & votes got me nominated in the 5 categories I was going for, and I ended up taking home the 2009 ‘Canadian Club DJ of The Year’ award!

I’ve worked tirelessly all year since then! Between holding down residencies at some of Canada’s top venues on a weekly basis (Guvernment, Dragonfly, etc), I’ve also toured extensively across international cities such as Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Shanghai, NYC, San Jose (Costa Rica), as well as tour dates across several Canadian cities (Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Newfoundland, Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton, etc!)

Outside of the club, I’ve put out mixtape projects [Bridging The Gap w/ The Clipse, Michael Jackson Tribute Double-Disc, Brain Candy, etc), several podcasts, Redefiniton Radio mixshow on Globe-Radio, and will soon be starting an all Canadian Content mixshow on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio.

Regardless of if I'm nominated or not, I'm going to continue working as hard as ever at what I do.. because at the end of the day, I love what I do and nothing is going to change that!

If you appreciate what I do as much as I love doing it, a few moments of your time is all I ask for.. and as always, I would greatly appreciate it!

Categoy 8: Club Dance DJ of the Year

Vote ‘Wristpect – Toronto’
From smashing down electro festivals in Costa Rica, to playing a lot of house/dance venues across the country, I’ve been comfortably playing this genre of music for over 5 years now, and am happy to see it as a new category at this years awards.

Category 10: Club DJ of the Year
————————————————————
Vote ‘Wristpect – Toronto’
This past year, I’ve played 200+ shows in too many clubs, across several different cities/countries, proudly representing Toronto/Canada every time.

Category 13: Toronto DJ of the Year
————————————————————
Vote ‘Wristpect – Toronto’
-Residencies & special events across every major club in the city
-’Bridging The Gap’ Toronto to Virgina saw massive international success & I’m both happy & proud to be an ambassador to this city’s wealth of talent [emcees, producers, etc] and share it with the world

That’s it! Again, if you appreciate what I do and the effort that I put in day in/day out – please take a few minutes to show some love! Every vote counts.. Thanks for your support every time!!

April 1st – Calgary w/ Starting From Scratch on 4 Turntables

april1_back-to-scratch

I’m looking forward to this one..!! Scratch is a legend in this DJ game & is also a huge inspiration for myself, and countless other DJs. I used to go to ‘Spotlight Saturdays’ at the docks years ago and watch him and Baby Yu rip up 4 turntables on a weekly basis. Back then, I never would have thought I’d have the opportunity to rock 4 tables with him.. This will be a fun night.. My man Sir Lancelot will be there with us, holding down the vibes on the mic! Vibes should be crazy.. If you are in Calgary/Western Canada next Thursday, make sure you come through! Full details via netcandi.com

Red Bull Music Academy Videos

I would love to go to this place at one point.. Lots of great interviews/lectures on this site..  Below is one with Pedro ‘Busy P’ Winter [Ed Banger Records, Paris, France]

Pedro Winter is a modern day Malcom McLaren. Impressario and musicican alike, this Parisian used to manage what is arguably the most influential dance music act of the ’90s, Daft Punk, before he started his own label Ed Banger Records in 2003. Since then, he’s shown the world that it’s still possible to successfully deal with music, pushing the careers of the likes of Justice, Uffie, DJ Mehdi or Mr. Oizo, while anticipating and shaping a colourful trend called nu-rave with the label’s instantly recognizable artwork. A mix of all things hip hop, pop, electro, disco and rock, Ed Banger set the Vice magazine to music, putting back relentless fun and a barrel of laughs into the global club music scene. At the same time, Pedro has kept his creativity as a DJ, producer and remixer: he’s re-edited Kraftwerk classics, collaborated with Westcoast indie rapper Murs, and played every relevant rave in the Western hemisphere and beyond. So you never know what to expect from Busy P, his label or his crazy peers. Time to get busy!
