Huffington Post: Toronto Rises as the New Capital of Cool

Published in Huffington Post Via 1loveTO

If your idea of Canada is dominated by maple syrup, hockey, flannel shirts or the G-20 Summit, it’s time to discover Toronto as the new “Capital of Cool.”

Toronto boasts a population of five million people, 200 ethnic groups and 130 languages. Each year the city absorbs approximately 50,000 immigrants, making it Canada’s largest city and surprisingly one of the most culturally diverse communities in North America.

Although the Toronto skyline is dotted with a dizzying array of towering glass residential developments, it is the renewal of the once dodgy but now trendy West Queen, Ossington and King West neighborhoods that have visitors buzzing about the galleries, custom clothing boutiques, restaurants and specialty stores. As a reference consider these districts to be Toronto’s Brooklyn.

Park Slope

Via NY Mag.

No neighborhood is the butt of more stroller jokes or the recipient of more anti-gentrification scorn. But any way you slice it, Park Slope is the very definition of a well-rounded neighborhood. It falls just slightly below average in two: affordability (the average two-bedroom rental is $2,275) and diversity. In all other areas, it’s somewhere between above grade and superlative: It’s blessed with excellent public schools, low crime, vast stretches of green space, scores of restaurants and bars, a diverse retail sector, and a population of more artists and creatives than even its reputation for comfortable bohemianism might suggest (more, in fact, than younger, trendier Williamsburg). It might not be everyone’s idea of a perfect neighborhood, but statistically speaking (by a hair), there’s nowhere better.

Summer Listening Courtesy Of Mensa & M-Kutz

Two of my DJ homies recently dropped some mixtapes. Both have been in constant rotation for me.. Thought I’d share! Mensa’s ‘Lazy Days’ takes you on a hip hop/ne-yo soul/r&b relaxed ride, while M-Kutz comes with a nice selection of funk, disco house, personal remixes, and dutch house. Enjoy!

The Bird and The Bee

The Bird and The Bee does an amazing job of covering Bee Gees’ 1977 classic ‘How Deep Is Your Love’.. They are without a doubt one of my favourite new bands and this song is amazing. The Pink Tape V2 is coming soon…

Drake: Songs For All Seasons [Mixtape]

My brother from LA, DJ Mike Danger makes better mixtapes than you do. If you don’t believe me, download his latest ‘Drake – Songs For All Seasons’ mixtape by clicking on the image above or clicking here. Not many DJ’s put effort into mixtapes or are able to flex real skills anymore, but as usual Danger comes correct. Thank him later.. PS. Look out for a collaboration project between us soon..  ‘Continue Reading’ below for track listing, etc.
