Wristpect x The Clipse x Kid Cudi

Haven’t found time to update the blog/site for a little while; things have been hectic.  History was made today.. Barack Obama – President of The United States of America. I bet if I asked you to repeat that very sentence outloud 2 years ago, you would have laughed.  Is it really time for a new world order?  Time will tell.. Regardless, it is a proud moment for human beings in general, and I’m excited about where we stand, and where we are heading..!

One of my partner’s in crime, and my emcee Sir Lancelot along with DJ Tilt are actually in Washington as I type this.  Mediaphase (site will be up very shortly) booked them for Google’s aferparty for Obama’s Inauguration! It’s only 3 weeks into the year and the squad is already beginning to make history.  We don’t sleep.  You really shouldn’t either..

So as I was saying, we’re just about 3 weeks into the year, and it’s going to be a great ’09..

This past Thursday I got to re-connect with The Clipse (Malice, Pusha T, DJ Rick Geez).  Last time I was with them was in May of 2007 when I opened their concert here in Toronto.

Almost 2 years later, we met up again..

Last Thursday/Friday was a hectic 40 hours.. It went something like this:

I met up with DJ Rick Geez & Pusha T at the hotel.  We discussed the Bridging The Gap Mixtape movement, and it’s now official – Volume 4 will be Hosted by The Clipse, co-starring N.E.R.D. ! From Toronto, to Virgina, we stay building bridges and crossing borders. Pay attention!

After that, we took Rick Geez to the studio (see: 2 studios.. One of the 1200s at Remix was broken, so we had to relocate to another location) so he could record his mix show which he had to submit to the radio station in Virgina the next day..

Now by the time we got to the 2nd studio in the west end, it was already 11:30pm. He had to record an hour long mix, which brings us to 12.30 am..

Now in the midst of all this running around, I still had my club night in Guelph at Van Gogh’s going on.. The homies Tilt & Illiment were holding things down up there, but Lancelot and I still needed to go up and play our set before the night was over.. This is another 45 minute drive from Downtown Toronto lol

After dropping Rick Geez off back at the hotel after making sure he got his mixshow recorded, we made our way to Guelph.. We finally arrived there at 1.45am, and hopped straight on the tables!  It was a takeover, even though it was a short set, the vibe was crazy – lights on at 2.30 am and no one leaving the club till 3 am type of vibe. I love those nights..!  We are out there every Thursday at Van Gogh’s 2nd Floor – $2.50 drinks & $100 Grey Goose. Come through.

By the time I got home it was 5 am.. 4 1/2 hours later I was up and on the way to Seneca College to do a sound check. Famous was opening The Clipse show (they had two shows in one day, an early and a late night at Circa), and I was DJ’ing his set.  Ran into Malice, Pusha, Ab-Liva there once again:

After that it was off to Livestock, where they were promoting their new Play Cloths line:

While kicking it at Livestock, Kid Cudi passed through as well.. He’s a real humble dude & hopefully I will be able to bang out a mixtape with him around summer time.. Here are some more photos courtesy of PhotoWill:

Straight after that it was off to another out of town club gig in Waterloo.. Got home at 5am again.. 4 1/2 hours of sleep every 48 hours. That’s how it goes sometimes.. Till next time.. Peace!

It’s 09.. Let’s go!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Hope you guys all had a safe and fun time on New Years Eve where ever you ended up. Thank you to everyone who partied with us at GOSSIP for the NBA Celebrity Soiree – the vibe was crazy..! The Toronto Raptors & Denver Nuggets were definitely in the building; my man Carmello Anthony from the Nuggets hosted my 2nd set and there is a possibility of an Allstar Mixtape in the works.. Not a bad way to start of the year!

Once again, I wanna say THANKS to everyone.. ’08 was a crazy year for me; I got to open concerts & shows for Nas, Mos Def, Just Blaze, Little Brother, EPMD etc., toured Canada & The United States, playing parties at The Playboy Mansion, in LA, Vegas, as well as private parties for Usher, John Legend, etc!!

I’m going to be working overtime to make sure this year is even better.. I have lot’s planned and tons in store!!

Thanks to everyone who has been down since day one, and to all of the recent supporters as well. To name everyone is next to impossible, so I’m going to avoid doing so for the sake of most likely leaving out names.. But a big, big thanks to everyone – if you have helped or supported me in anyway, it does NOT go unappreciated.. Trust!

So it’s a New Year.. Let’s go..!! Here’s what’s up for ’09 so far as far as clubs, radio & tours go!

This year look out for projects such as: Bridging The Gap TO-VA w/ The Clipse, Entourage w/ Jester, Party Life V2 w/ DJ Tilt, and some rock & electro projects as well..!!

Also, look out for the new website/blog launching within the month, and the site launch for my new-media & communications firm, Mediaphase Inc!

Got work to do,
I’m out!
Peace!

Hmm… Check it. Shouts to the homie Shake.

New Mixtape, New Podcast, Usher Private VIP Party, 3 Cities in 3 Days, New Saturday Night Residency ‘Live To Air’ 11-12pm, & November Updates..!

Damn, that was a long sentence.  Before I get into anything, let me just put this out there…  Imagine having a blackberry with no letter ‘A’ key.  As in, the letter ‘A’ button, which conveniently is the ‘*’ button as well, ceases to function. I tend to break these things fairly quickly.

The last four days have been a mess; not having an ‘a’ key when on the road all day is like having a mouth that works, and a brain telling it what to say, but not being able to physically say it. Beyond frustrating.. The letter ‘A’ also happens to be one of two most commonly used letters when typing!

Thankfully, Rogers will be providing the new phone, and I should have a new PIN by tomorrow. So.. just call me if you need me.  To all those whom I’ve sent texts, emails, and BBM’s that sound like you are communicating with a 3 yr old, my apologies!

‘Nuff talking. Getting in to things..

This one’s fairly self explanatory.. If you are familiar with the last two ‘Bridging The Gap’ series (see: New York & Chicago) of mixed compilations, then you know what to expect.  Good looking out to everyone who came through on this project, from both Toronto & North Carolina.  Production & emcees are from either of the two cities, and the project is hosted by Little Brother over a year ago when they were in Toronto, promoting their Getback LP. For various reasons (other mixtapes, parties, tours, my own laziness, etc) I never ended up getting back to this until I found out that they were coming back to TO for another tour.. Time flies.  I’m happy its out, although wish I got to spend more time on it.. but such is life. Shouts to Big Dho aka MR DOITALL BITCH!

Again, DOWNLOAD IT HERE temporarily, until I put it into the Mixtapes archive.

Ideall Clothing Now Open For Business Online!

My man Be from TheLegendsLeague is a not only a friend, but is also a business partner, a daily dose of motivation, an inspiration, and on top of all that, he just happens to be one of the illest designers on the planet. Yeah.. I said it.

His clothing line IDEALL CLOTHING is an extension of TheLegendsLeague movement, and has been steady snapping necks and attracting quite a lot of attention over the last little while..  Although still in it’s infancy, the line has already dropped some very heavy pieces, selling out at the few spots it is available at.

Fret no more, you can now purchase the goods online! We’re open for business! Don’t sleep!

On The Grind Like Clockwork…!

Since having returned from Montreal on Sunday night, I’ve been locked up in the studio working around the clock on this Bridging The Gap Mixtape – Toronto to North Carolina. It’s shaping up to be nice, but I still have a lot more work to put in, and haven’t even begun the recording process as yet! That needs to be wrapped up by Tuesday at the latest, which is going to be difficult considering this week’s event line up.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I teach at Scratchlab and have to head straight to Waterloo (1.5 hours away) for my man JD Era’s CD Release party out there

Thursday, I am in Guelph again at Van Gogh’s 2nd Floor (residency) alongside JD Era once again

Friday, I’ll be at Empyre Lounge w/ P-Plus for a party called Love & Lust

Saturday, back at D’Luxe VIP Lounge inside The Guvernment

&

Finally Sunday, Body English All Ages..

sooo basically.. I have one day to record this entire mixtape. If I don’t answer your calls or return your emails this week, you now know why. Wish me luck.

Opening For Little Brother October 19th..!

Sunday Night, October 19th @ The MOD Club. Toronto. Big Pooh & Phonte Return. If you don’t know about Little Brother, wake up!!! This will also be the Mixtape Release Party for Bridging The Gap – Toronto to North Carolina.. Stop sleeping. Cop your ticket.

N.E.R.D.

So on Monday afternoon my homeboy Bobby Redef me up and we headed down to Livestock (edit: we stopped by Craft Burger first – aka one of the best Burger’s in Toronto.. Get familiar like Clinton Sparks and goto King & Portland and order a combo with onion rings) where N.E.R.D. were scheduled to make an in-store appearance before their concert/performance alongside Common later that night.  Much love to the Livestock crew for bypassing us past a 2 hour lineup that wrapped around the building! After chilling inside for almost another two hours with the peoples Mensa, PhotoWill, Jose, Universal, etc. we finally got to build with the N.E.R.D.’s themselves.

Pharrell Williams, Shae, Fam-Lay & their management were suprisingly down to earth and receptive to the idea and concept of the the Bridging The Gap Mixtape series.  After hustling some drops & building the relationship, Pharrell let me know he had some new artists to break.. So now it’s officially official! Yezzur.

Tdot to VA.. Hosted By The Clipse, Guest Starring N.E.R.D. & featuring exclusive music from the Star-Trak camp… Soon come. Let me wrap up this North Carolina mixtape with Little Brother, and then I shall begin on this project.. !

It’s Been A Busy Week.. Scratchlab, Filmfest, Guelph, Guv, D’Luxe.. Etc..

Been a while since I’ve posted anything.. Been so damn busy, I’ve hardly had time to check email.  I feel like if I’m not either behind the wheel driving somewhere, on my blackberry, dj’ing somewhere, eating or sleeping, I am on the computer.  I haven’t even caught up with neighbourhood friends I grew up with since I’ve come back and time continues to fly by.. I cannot wait to leave and take a vacation to go visit my girl in Grenada..

Until then, things continue to progress forward at a rate that I am trying to play catch up with.. It almost feels as though I am in an ongoing & never ending state of consciousness.. Sleep has become scarce, highly valued and much appreciated.

Wednesday, I was teaching private lessons & the final class of my Beginner Course at Scratchlab (http://www.scratchlab.ca) from 3-8:30 pm.. Congrats to my class.. You all learnt how to count bars & beatmatch a lot faster than I did..! Hope to see you in the Intermediate 1 course.. Straight after that, I was off to DJ a Film Festival event at Ultra Supperclub..  Despite all the bougie suits & movie producers in the spot, it was actually a refreshing experience..!  Getting to play Rolling Stones & The Beatles and have people know the words and sing along was a nice change..

Thursday was another full day.. Woke up & drove to Universal Urban’s offices to pick up promotional material for Kardinall Offishall’s new LP NOT 4 SALE.. Then drove to Guelph, where we did Kardi’s release party inside my Thursday Night residency (Entourage Thursdays inside Van Gogh’s Ear 2nd Floor). Shouts to everyone who holds me down out there!

Friday, I was at Guvernment for DREAM Fridays, it was my first time there since the launch and it was alright.. The mixer was broken which sucked (edit: all club’s need a RANE or PIONEER, sorry Allen & Heath, but you guys just aren’t cutting it).  I will not be back there till after October 10th..

Saturday was a long day.. Met with Rockstar Energy Drink at 1 pm.. Drove to Guelph at 3pm.. Had the launch event for another one of my companies, FroshPlus (http://www.froshplus.com), which works with Corporate Brands looking to target the 17-21 first year students across Canadian Campuses.. After managing that, I had to drive to Toronto, back to The Guvernment for 12am, where I headlined my Saturday Night Residency inside D’Luxe Lounge from 1230-330am.

Needless to say, I caught up on sleep today.. Waking up at 5pm, planning the following week, and taking in Episode 2 of The 5th Season of ENTOURAGE on HBO.. It is now 4 am and I am getting around to updating the site/blog, after having spent a few hours organizing some classic rock..

The MANIFESTO! is this weekend.. Huge Festival, bringing not only the city’s hip hop community, but rather the entire Toronto Community together in a series of unique events and initiatives.. Check http://www.themanifesto.ca for details..!

I will also be opening their Closing Party this Sunday, Sept 21 @ CiRCA, with DJ PREMIER vs. PETE ROCK!
Crazyness.. History in the making.. I opened for Pete Rock @ State Theatre last summer.. but never got to stay for his set as I had to leave and play another spot.. Really looking forward to taking this in after my set.. I will be on from 9:30 pm – 11:00 pm, then Starting From Scratch & then the heavyweights battle it out..

Also, the Redman & Method Man tour will be coming up the following week inside The Koolhaus which I will be opening alongside TONA & JD Era. Should be a good show.. Toronto has sold over 600 tickets already.

For my R&B/SOUL lovers, Robin Thicke will be inside The Koolhaus October 6th, which is a Monday. I won’t be playing, but I will be re-releasing my PINK TAPE (http://www.djwristpect.com/ThePinkTape) and handing out 500 copies.

Also, on Sunday, October 29th I will be opening The Little Brother Show & finally releasing Bridging The Gap – Toronto to North Carolina…

Until next time,
Peace.
